I've been on the fence wether I should go with a Manual or Hydrolic jack plate. I'll be putting a v-6 on this boat and know that weight should be kept down but will the weight of a hydrolic matter more than the advantage of having a hyrolic plate. Also where should I start when it comes to setback? should I go with 6" or go with more? The boat is very light but I have never ran it so I don't know its handling caractoristics. I have attached a picture of the boat

Hi Lee,

Does the boat even need an adjustable plate? Might be a good idea to just bolt an outboard up and see what happens. The Bob's convertible manual plate might be a good idea since you can configure it with a couple of different setbacks and wedge angles.

If you stay with the cable/pulley steering (I would) you will not need a hydraulic. When you jack the motor the transom angle moves the motor away from the front pulleys and anchors and you need to adjust the cable lengths. Pain in the rear but worth it.

with a boat this dedicated your not gonna be doing alot of different things such as skiing, cruising with a bunch of people. so i wouldn't think you would need to play with motor height alot .6 inches sounds like a good number, you shouldn't need more if the hull is really that light. my brother runs 5 inches on his speedcraft with a crossflow 140 and its bordering on too much even with a cleaver

Its all going well.. I havn't done anything on the boat yet. I've just been "armchair" rigging. trying to figure out how I want to do everything before I get busy. Plus I've been working on getting all the parts ready for the boat. I want to have all parts here ready to install when I start working.
