Picked up the new boat, when we checked it out all cylinders had equal compression gear oil was water free and the only thing that did not work was the alarm horn. 86 200 mercury when you turn the key on a test horn should go off, have power to horn so I bought a new one. It still doesnot work. automactic oiler works where do I look for problem is there a way to test the horn circuit. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks delwarerick:rolleyes:

I have a 1990 XR-4. The horn does not sound at turning the switch on. The overheat horn did function however. The Merc manual describes ways to test each aspect of the warning circuit. You disconect various wires and touch them to the block or a ground and after a second or two the horn will sound. Check a service manual or maybe someone else can tell you which wires to try.

Life is a little hectic right now. Don't forget about the Punkin' Chunckin' World Championships down the street from you. I'll talk to the Captain about getting you a pit pass. Way cool being close to teh machines.
I think Scott's e is listed in the profile section, or just find a post and push email under his name.
E him soon, b/c he's looking at a V4 in Florida - bll's motor. Instigator is instigating by suggesting he look at teh V4 looper instead...

YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK INTO THE OIL WARNING MODULE. THE MODULE IS WHAT TELLS THE HORN TO SOUND DURING THE INITIAL KEY ON POWER AND ALSO IN CASE OF AN OVERHEAT, LOW OIL IN THE ENGINE RESERVOIR, OR LACK OF OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT MOVEMENT.
