View Full Version : People who own boats VS. True boaters

I have always thought there is a big difference between someone that owns a boat and a true boater. You have that guy running down the river that you wave at and he won't wave back, he is a boat owner, the guy that flags you down and offers a beer and yacks for a few, he to me is a true boater and gets what it is all about.. Well this was proven to me this weekend in Ft. Myers. As some may know my little world has exploded and I was forced to scam my mom's Florida car from her and bring it back to Michigan. The night before I left I threw a post looking for lasermodvee cause I knew he moved down there. He gave me a call that night and I told him I would be in town the next day . we had met a few times at a few events and hassled eachother online a few times, that's about it. The next evening he gives me a call and stopped by for a few beers. I was trying to get this Honda accord that had been sitting for a few years started and it turned out the fuel pump was shot, for me this was a big problem being 1300 miles from home and broke and not really knowing anyone or having any tools. But we put that a side and had a few beers. The next morning my phone rings first thing, it is Brian, he tells me he will be there in about 45 minutes with his dad (Buzz). These guys show up with a ton of tools, ran me to get parts and help me get the car running. This was Saturday. Sunday morning I get a call from Buzz and his wife inviting me to go boating with all of them, we ran around to several beaches and then out to dinner. I wanted to again thank them and they took my troublesome trip and turned it into a mini vacation. I wish there were more people like them out there. very nice people!! it was not for them I would still be trying to get a fuel pump in with a screw driver and a can opener:rolleyes: . Brian and his wife Gina, Brian's dad Buzz and his wife (who whooped Brian's ass..LOL) are to me the true definition of boaters, willing to help someone out for no reason other than to help. Thank you again, first class people all the way!!!!

great story,I also can share what real boaters do for each other.im replacing a engine on my 55footer in which I live.since it will be in the yard for three or four weeks i am homeless.at least 5people offered us the keys to there boats and said we could move in an use there boat.we are blessed to have such good friends and yes I would do the same for them.one thing I have always said boaters are the best people in the world.

I appreciate the kind words Scott.

The way I look at it, I figure you or anyone else would do the same for me. I know what it feels like to be 1000 miles from home and have no tools, broken down on the side of the road. It sucks!

I can name two seperate occasions off the top of my head where someone from this board has gone above and beyond to reach out and help a fellow boater.

One was this July, Instigator, (Gary), put me up in his house, opened up his garage, fed me, (basically brought me in like a brother) so I could finish my Laser for th Rumble.

Another was Balzy a couple years ago.
Instigator and I flew in to Milwaukee to pick up an $900 Ebay van north of Balzy. He found out we were around his area and invited us over. He and his better half, not knowing us past this board, put us up in their house, fed us breakfast, picked on Gary about OMC's, we had a ball!

Whenever I travel between Florida and Ohio or wherever, I always keep in mind who on Scream and Fly lives in the area I am passing through, because you never know when the tow vehicle might decide to park you halfway there.

It's good to hear you made it back Scott!

BTW-My Mom didn't kick my ass as bad as the minnows kicked yours!! ;) :D

Since Greg is (assume) still working on the site, Why not start a place where we can list our contact info state by state for members in need. In a printable way so if you are traveling through what ever states you can print out those pages to take with you just in case something happens. I have thought about doing this with our Texas bunch so why not for everybody. I like most people on this site would be more than will to help out anyone of you if I got the call or be able to refer or contact somebody as close to you as possable. What do you guys think? And only list your info IF you are will to go out of your way to help a fellow scream and flyer, which again the word ASSUME would include all of us.

So I will start- ANYBODY that needs ANY help in West Texas, I-20 between Fort Worth and El Paso/ Amarillo and I-10. Call me 24/7/365. Iwill do my best to help in anyway.
