I'm considering purchasing a boat that has a CMC power-lift hydraulic jack plate. It doesn't work. The pump is bolted to the transom just beside the plate and has significant corrosion all over it. The owner says it "needs a new solenoid", but I have no idea how that was diagnosed.

When one of these stops working, what typically goes wrong? How much would it cost to replace the hydraulic system in one?

It looked like about a 6" setback unit. I'm leaning towards just replacing it with a mechanical jack plate and spacers, 8-10" setback (checkmate pulsare).

Where would I go get parts for one of these? What is a good source for prices online for mechanical jack plates?

We can get you just about anything you may need in the way of a jackplate, parts or otherwise. For a manual, we could put you into a Hydrodynamics Rapid Jack anywhere from 4" to 14" of setback. Or we can get you a pump for your CMC. This is part of what we handle: http://www.rickracers.com/high.html .We are working on a new site with all prices posted, S&F member log-in, and a shopping cart system. Here's a little tase of the new site: http://www.rickracers.com/newsite/ . Let us know if we can help you.

P.S. Posted prices on the new site are retail, as an S&F member, your prices will be lower, but we don't have the log-in/member system set up to show your discount yet.
