Hey, I scored this Martin 200. The exhaust looks to be aftermarket. Can you guys tell me anything about it? I don't think it is the racing version, but it sure is sporty. It has the valve to switch from internal tank to remote.

Thanks,

If i recall the Martin 200 racing lower unit was a long slender affair- looked a little different than whats on your motor - but It may be a earlier model- I bet Sam will know its heritage.

You have scored the "full race" 200 S version of the Martin.

It is 3" shorter than the other versions and has the larger box shaped exhaust.

The first race version just had the pointy nose cone and a bit clipped off the exhaust outlet to relieve it a little. The nose cones just screw on to the front of the case, they are interchangable and the pointy nose cone was also sold as an accessory.

I don't know the history of that exhaust cut out, but it looks a lot like the ones on some Mercs

Here is a std Martin 200; compare the longer space between the cav plate and where the lower unit bolts up to the mid........also the more round nose cone.

The carbs, internals and gear ratios were the same.

From Speed and Spray Magazine 1953

The "M" version with the clipped exhaust outlet.........straight up and down instead of the outlet angled down in the pic of the fishing 200

Cool Sam, I guess it was worth my investment ($20). I bought it cause it looked racy and the lettering on the cowls were raised and it would not require new decals. Should be fun to restore.

Thanks,
Jason

On eBay this year there have only been 3 200 S's that I saw.

Two were suspiciously sold with fewer than 4 bids for around $2000 (I suspect these were faked auctions to trick other private sales of 200 S's).

The third one got over 20 bids and went for about $750.

Sam...
Was the lower cowl the same on the Racing Silver Streak as the fishing version? I would like to have one and the stock exhaust cover too.
thanks

Yes, the only thing that is different is the lower unit.
