This is prob a stupid question to the gurus but here goes why are the wh-20 and 22 carbs best?? WHat is wromg with wh-46s? These were performance carbs on bridgeports, and my 200 2.4 has them. It seems Merc would have used the best performers on their high performance motors. I am not arguing the fact I am just tryin' to learn
Thanks T-rex and the gurus:)

Let me dig into my memory banks, if I remember the carbs with the round floats ( not the w-20 or w-22 ) were not desirable as the bowls didn'nt have the capicity( inventory ) for a hot motor.. Also they had a clear plastic float that didn't like weird fuels ( alky, race gas , and propilene oxide ) the would melt. They also have a smaller main circuit so the motors that needed the more fuel were lean, we would drill the top vents and epoxy slosh tubes to prevent the motor from bogging on hard acceleration (W-22's) had em bored out and installed perconeedle and seats,
ended up with OMC 235 carbs that worked better that the Mercs.
Some of my customers with the highly ported steel bored 2.5 that are carbed fitted use the new Merc carbs with great success !

That is from the memory banks and may be a bit foggy,
Good luck ,
