have any of you ever changed the rubrail on your stv? is it hard to do? Mine has a few scratches from tieing along the dock that are annoying me. Is the rail standard stuff that can be bought at the boat store? thanks

Apparently you can get it from Triad and it comes in straight lengths. Not quite sure how they bend it so nice to fit around the corners. Might be tough to ship. Maybe you can get some via people travelling to the Rumble. Just a thought.

Make sure you have a heat gun to help soften the plastic around the corners. It's hard and hard to bend if you dont soften it with a heat gun it will kink on you.:)

try taco marine the have a catalog that you can order from.. just type taco marine in your search window and check your options.. Rob you are correct on a plastic rub rail that is the best way with a heat gun but usually the stv's have metal ones mine does anyway and most i've seen do also so a rubber mallet works well for rounding cornors!!

the hardest part looks like the inside corners on the forks. is there special way to make that bend?

Use the heat as you go and put in some screws as you go and yes a mallet or a short rolling pin helps to comform it.I helped Jeff rig my rubrail at LIGHTNING, he maid it look easy but he's only done about 100 of them:D It's black plastic and looks real nice:)

I am looking for a supplier for the aluminum rubrail..... but I want to be able to get it either anodized or powdercoated ( this kind of rules out Taco as you can only get it in "clear" ). I have checked everywhere I know ......Livorsi.etc, but if anyone knows I would appreciate it.... Thanks !

Plastic???? I've never seen an STV with plastic or rubber in the rubrail. All of mine have been aluminum strip only.

I guess if you want to get technical its not a stv its a copy! But it still the same boat :D I chose the black plastic because I like it better than the others.I think it looks nicer with the colors of my boat:cool:

I have mine off and don't think it's much more than pure aluminum. Pure or almost pure aluminum is very soft and easy to bend.
Probalby screw it on and start bending it around, put in a screw and keep going.
The inside corners? Shove it inwards while it slides along the nose, or put the joints there.

A BIG old rubber mallet, a screw gun and a little patience.
That is all that is needed.Inside corners are very tough but usually they don't need replaced.I can get you all the rub rail as original.Comes in 12 ft sticks.

I havent really took a good look at it but is the part that goes inside the forks seperate from the outside rail? as long as it matches i wouldnt have to change the whole thing.

the stv rubrail is in five pieces. two pieces on
each side, one from the transom to about half
way, then from there it goes to the front and
wraps around the tips of the sponsons. and
then the last one goes around the nose and
wraps the inside corners partway to the tip of
the sponson. this is how mine is anyway. i
remember because i had to take it off to re-
place all the old silicone in the hull seam.
congrats on the new addition to the family
helm, we'll have to make the trip up to ny
from pa to see the new hot boater.
take care,
Matt
