Anybody have any ideas about why a Land and Sea 700/800 jackplate motor would draw double amperage and run at half speed and trip the overheat switch? I cleaned all the connections and even ran it directly connected to the battery with no improvement. Whaddaya tink boys??

Sounds like the brushes are worn badly. Ro Yale posted one time a place in Florida which rebuilds them.

I already looked at them and cleaned them up. If the brushes are similar to the other 12v brushes I've dealt with they're about half gone then. There's about 1/4" between the leads and the contact end of the brush.
more ideas?

I would definitely replace the brushes, have the armature serviced, (turned and mica scraped), and try to find some new bearing/bushings. Lot of starter and alternator shops can get parts for stuff like this. Good luck with it.
