Anyone have a good way to estimate materials when laying glass? The mat and cloth is fairly simple, but I always seem to come up short or have way too much left over when it comes to resin. Is there a way to calculate it using the square footage of mat or cloth you will be using? Just found some floor problem's and got pissed, anyway a couple hours later, and cover it glass and wood scraps I have the old floor out and close to being ready to start putting the new one in. I am going Wednessday to buy some glass and resin. thanks for any help you guys can give. ~GB

Depends on which coat, over bare wood 1 gal should wet out around 65sf of 1 1/2 oz mat,as a 2nd layer around 90.Don't know what kind of wood you are going to use but Lowes has a new plywood alot like the ac fir Superply that they quit carrying call Sand-e-ply.It is a dry wood,I put 1/2" down for my floor and rebuilt the seat frames. The grain turns up when resinated.Excellent adhesion quailty and has very little warp.

Since cloth, mat and roving and all that should be saturated by a certain percentage you can use that and pad it a bit. Off the top of my head mat is something like 60%? and cloth around 45% resin by weight.
6 ounce cloth times the area times the percentage-.45 = say 3 ounces of resin weight, not volume. Convert it into volume.

An ideal laminate is 50% glass, 50% resin. With cloth it's not too hard but mat and roving take some work (squeeging). Mat weight is the weight per sq. ft. (2 oz. mat weights 2 oz./sq.ft.). Cloth and roving weights are the weight per sq. yd..

your all wrong, figure out how long you think it will take, how much it will cost, now TRIPLE both of those, you now have a reasonably accurate estimate.

The method I used, If I thought I needed two, I bought three! worked well most of the time!
