Yanmar made a deisel outboard, think it was in the 30 to 50 hp range, very heavy, not likely it would perform well on your STV:D

I also think it cant be imported its is a dirty motor. At least thats what Ive heard. Otherwise the rag boater would be using for auxillry power. Fuel comsumption is unreal very efficent. Rick

I think the 36 hp Yanmar is still being made. I saw a lifeboat once that had twin 36 hp Yanmar diesel outboards on it. Very reliable, I am sure.

In addition, there is a lady in Australia who has built a diesel outboard using a Toyota truck engine.

They made a 27 and 36 hp ob motor. It cannot be imported anymore because of the emissions. They are still very popular in europe and still being made. I say a test in Motoryacht magazine a few years ago. They tested it on a 16 aluminum boat and put the 36hp yanmar against a 50hp gas. The 36hp got to like 30mph and got about 30 mpg at cruise. NO $^%* 30 mpg! They cost around 9k for the 36hp.

True story ... no bull****. I've seen a Merc inline 6 run on diesel. A friend of mine has this boat shop down the river ... needless to say, the "helper" did some carb work, then used the shop fuel tank to fire off the motor. But! The shop tank was empty ... so he grabbed the closest gas tank and proceded to mix up some fuel. It was diesel...not gas. So after a couple of hours of trying to get this thing to run...pulling the carbs, changing plugs, etc... someone noticed the nasty black stuff coming from the exhaust (me). Needless to say .. it ran a helluva lot better on some good ole high octane gas. But it did run on diesel .... just not very well.

McCulloch offered 2 diesel models back in the 1960's

They were converted versions of their mid sized 2 cylinder motors.

Very few were sold.
