i recently purchased a 87 switzer ski 17.5ft hull that is in mint condition. i have a few ques, what happened to switzer and are the molds still around? what kind of prop would work well on this hull, i am planning on slapping on a merc 2.5, and would i need a jack plate or some type of setback, the guy i bought it from had it up tp 87mph with a merc 3.0 225. any help would be greatly appreciated as i am at a standstill with info, also is there any sites dedicated to switzer owners. they are such a sweet hull. if u know of any one selling direct them to me PLEASE!

The one I had was made with a chopper gun. I don't think the transom was strong enough for more than the inline I had. But this was a '76 I think.

If you already have the dual steering on it, make sure the cables are going to be long enough for a setback install.

Did you buy the boat in Honeoye, NY? IF so, it is my old boat. They ran best with a Merc 175. Of course, anything is possible. Let me know if this is the boat I am thinking of.

87switzer

If you mean your looking to buy another switzer I have A 17ft project if your interested originaly had a stock 175hp merc V6 and the boat ran a little over 70mph. I bought it as a project with no motor and have had no time for it.

As for switzer I've heard rumors that Bobby switzer was working on a new hull. My guess is there just crazy rumors though.

Switzer is a good hull and will fly with the right setup. I have a 20ft model GL20 with a 200hp Merc. Switzer is no longer in business. They quit building boats around 1994. I do not think the molds are available. If they still exist; some privet party may be keeping them for themselves. There are no sites dedicated to Switzers that I know of --- I just see them mentioned from time to time on sites like this one. You could ask the guy you bought the boat from what he would recommend --- he must have done some experimentation with the boat. I would recommend 5 to 8 inches of setback depending on how high you jack the motor.
I am running 8 inches of setback with the motor 2 1/2 inches
( prop shaft ) below the pad. My motor is old and needs to be replaced so I don't have the power to jack it higher and still get some bow lift. Good luck!!
