On June 20th a very good friend of mine David "Shakey" Thomas was involved in a motorcycle accident here in Panama City. David and I go back literally to child birth as he and I were born in the same hospital a day apart and have been friends since birth. David was just as I, always interested in hot cars and such back when I was drag racing cars and later moved up to boats just as I did. David was a crew member with me and went to many races with me. For some reason David always called me by his pet name for me "Slick" . No one but David ever called me by that name. He was scoring for me around 1979 or so at Guntersville Ala. at the marathon nationals and Sally Titus had to remind him he was my scorer when I got out in front and David jumped to his feet an yelled "go Slick go" forgetting to write down my lap time on the scorers sheet. As he was the only male scorer in the scorers area, the "slang " adjectives he used were probably off color as well. David and another friend of mine were stationed on different hill tops in Vietnam and comunicated with each other by radio daily not knowing who the other was until one of them mentioned his company has a mascot dog he had named Noah. They then figured out they were classmates and knew each other. David died this morning from injuries from the motor cycle accident. I wll miss him dearly as he was truly one of my "friends" Boating and boat racing has lost a true fan. As we get older our mortality becomes much more visible than at a younger age. One generation passes on and another moves up in its place. Time waits for no one. I will miss my "friend"
