First, thanks for sticking with me on the really stupid questions.

I got a Land and Sea trim sw. Thanks Sleek! 3 wires green, black, white. My titlt/trim pump has 2 wires bule, green. Before I connect something wrong and hurt a part I can not aford to replace right now, could someone give me the propper connections of these wires?

I did get a book, but it makes reference to a 4 wire system with a tilt/trim "solenoid" ? I have no such solenoid. I assume my trim gauge will not work w/o this solenoid. I can live w/o the gauge for now. But no switch? that I gotta have.

Spent yesterday taking the motor back off to remove old tilt/trim, tilt worked good, trim unit was frozen up. Got a loaner from Sleek, Thanks Sleek! with a combination of his parts and mine it works great. I can move it up/down by touching the wires to + and - and then reversing the + and - order to move it in the opposit direction.

So, thats where I is......

As always, I appreciate all the help!
Thanks Guys:)

there should be 3 wires. blue (up or down), green ( up or down)( i dont rem which is which.) and red +. touch blue to red and it should go one way. touch green to red and itll go the other. wire these into the switch the same way.

An old Merc guy used this to remember. Blue is for the sky=up, green is for grass=down. That's on Merc's

i have seen these switches before.

you have a green, black, and white wires. correct.

if so the

white; is constant hot, power supply. goes to your red wire

green; is down. goes to your green wire

black; is up. goes to your blue wire

Thanks guys! It's off to the garage to do some connecting! I'll let ya know:)

Thanks again:cool:

Ya'll were correct. But It only works if I touch a ground wire to one combination or the other. It seems like the trim unit isn't grounded??? HELP????

I'll take the glob of fiberglass resin under my arm pit over this wiring ****z any day.

the two selinoids should be grounded to the trim pump and thetrim pump grounded to the batt.

if you are having to ground the switch it's a new one for me!

You'll have to use a pair of diode equipped relays to operate the system. Merc uses 'em on all new style Design 3 style trim systems...

Thank You! When I described the problem at work thats what we came up with...reversing polarity. They gave me a switch and I could configure it similarly to the Land and Sea configuration I hooked up this AM. Unfortunately it also lacks the necessary ground effect I seem to need.

I'll look for the Merc relays you suggest.

All the "crap" I've had to do to get this old Baja sea worthy and it all comes down to what would seemingly be simple wiring. At least everything else works!

Ughhhh:(

Thanks again!

Scott, is this a remote trim pump with 2 solenoids mounted on it?

No solenoids whatsoever. two wires comming from the top of the pump, blue, green thats it. Have I got trouble?

u need to get 4 solinoids to make it change dirrection.. we had this discussion recently with someone else.. i'll see if i can find teh post and link it to you

Thanks Baja! If ya'll tell what to get, I'll get to rounding up the parts!

Double Ughhhh:( :(

That is the "NEW" style wireing, like the new Merc's have on the 2 wire trim pump. I think it is expensive. You can buy the harness and relays from Merc. $ $

look here scott.. same idea. http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=37288
u need 4 ford starter solinoids.. when 2 of them are energized 1 is positive the other ground.. when the other 2 are eneregized the wires switch from ground to positive..and from positive to ground.. your trim switch wires hook to the small terminals to energize the solinoids.. if it has 2 small terminlas.. used the one on the left side with it facing you.. also the main ffed wires( positive and negative ).. need to hook to the left side big terminals and the wires to the trim motor feed off the right side large terminal

if u use the ford solinoids u need to make sure to ground the mounting bases.. or else they will not work

Doesn't David's (Mardyn) suggestion solve the problem in lot simpler way than buying 4 solenoids?

Thanks for the link Baja! I'll have to check the cost of Merc sw's vs. the 4 solenoid system.

Glad to see the link and that I'm not the only one stumped by the 2 wire system. It shouldn't be this hard. My little boy has a simple rocker switch in one of his Leggo sets, push it one way = foreward, the other = reverse, center = off. DC system same thing no?

In any case, all the help is greatly appreciated. What a pain!

Thanks;

Scott

Pro Marine has a nice wiring harness for the conversion, complete with the correct diode/relays... let me know if you need one or I have the Merc Trim Relays available separately at reasonable costs...

STVmod...."another trim pump" God forbid! I'm really starting to hate these things!
