I just got a 2.4 245hp to replace a blown 200hp. I am using all the electronics and carbs on it from the 200. I have the wh-22s. I was told that they are large chambered heads. The compression is 117-120 psi. I have no clue where to start. What rpm should I let it turn? What is my pick up and max timing? What can I do to improve performance? It is going on a 18' Astroglass bass boat (VERY HEAVY) Any help will be greatly appreciated!

117-120psi is a little low. You can run up to 140-145psi on pump gas. Peak power is 6800-7000, but you can turn it harder. I think the limiters were supposed to be at 7500-7600.
Pickup timing is 0*, +/- 2*, with 26* max.
Cutting the heads would be the quickest bang for the buck mod to bring power up.

Don't run the same carb jets from the 200 in the 245. They need to be upped quite a bit, at least .010

put some 92 jets
25 deg timing
turn it till it won't turn no mo!!:D

it has .074 and .076 go to .084 and .086? ....092!? With it having large chambered heads do I need to go up that high? It doesn't have velocity stacks on it. That is my main concern is jetting. If I am jetted right I should have a small wet spot on the center of the piston when running wot and shutting down correct? Also I have the stock flywheel off the 200 on it. What can I turn it safely? Thanks again for all the responses.

with that low compression"125" you would be fine around 85-86 jets.
with the stock wheel you should be able to turn around 7-7500 without too much risk of breakin the crank.

do I still need to run .02 richer on 2 and 5? Will the crank out of the 200 fit this engine? If so I may keep it as a spare. The stock boxes will let it turn 7k right? Thanks again

dont think you need to with that compression... you should be fine with 86.
are you sure that motor has a rev limitor?
if it does come in just disconnect it
I wouldn't go smaller than 92s in it.

i would run 92 also; but taking into consideration his compression, he would be safe i think.
we have run 86 in race motors with 170 and 114 fuel with 27 deg timing, and been safe.
I dont think he is running race gas.

run .092 jets in all carbs (including 2 and 5 or .002 larger?) and run 93 octane with a 32 to 1 mix with 25-26 degrees of timing and turn it to 7k with my stock fly wheel. I have the factory switch boxes (from the 200) and no rev limiter. Do I have it right? Thanks again guys. Just don't want it to come apart also!!
Can I start out with the .092 and lean out untill I don't see a rpm increase and richen bacK up .002?
Thats what I do but I would check the EGT guages and plug color to make sure its right.

Us1 I don't have pyrometers on it. I can only rely on color. Should it be tan on the pistom or black with a wet spot on it? Thanks again.
If tis running right it should be tan and black on the pistons and wet by the intake ports.

I will run it with .092 in all 6 cylinders right and go from there.
Thanks again US1
