I finally got the 300X's today. They've were shipped from Wisconsin, and got to Orlando{1 hour away} on Sunday. They just sat in the Rodeway Terminal while I sat on my ass here waiting for them to get delivered. I've gotta have this boat rigged and running so I can deliver it to NY this weekend. When they came here in the truck, the dicks had them in the truck UPSIDE DOWN! The cowls and powerheads were on the bottom. It says all over the box"CAUTION THIS SIDE UP" Luckily, there was no damage. Here's some pics. I'll post more tommorrow on the boat. No drooling now!!

I read the breakin procedure. For the 1st hour, It said" do not idle more than 5 minutes. Run the 1st hour 4000-4500 rpm only. With 34 inch props, that 75-85 mph. That's a long way to go in an hour. Should be fun though! BAD BOYZ, BAD BOYZ, WHATCHA GONNA DO, WHEN I PUT THE 34 SCREWS ON YOU!!

I took the boat out today to break it in. The directions say to run the 1st hour between 4000-5400 rpm. The puter limits the revs to 5400 for the 1st few hours. It runs 98 at 5400. Once it let me go to 5900 at 105 mph. There's alot more in it. I put on 71 miles in a 1 1/2 mile lake. I was getting dizzy. Here's some pics

Would you call the way you have set up the engines for turning the props in? how much difference have you measured with turning vs turning out?

WILDMAN
07-11-2003, 09:27 PM
Espen, the 25ft Motion is a 24 Skater copy, as is the Liberator from the rubrail down. Heath, I'm gonna take it out in the morning and see if the rev limiter is off yet. I know this boat can top 115! I don't even get a chance to play with the trim before it hits the 5400 breakin limiter. The tunnel tab is definitely a MUST HAVE!

You mean both times Jim's was up and running.

I tried to get Bruce into some outboards this time but he just isn't interested. He's having a Spectre bulit now and they are taking his AO in trade. Delievery date is in mid August.

I talked to Jim a couple of years ago. I have a red ande gold 20 ft Stratos modified tunnel with a Merc 260.

There should be some pretty cool boat at the second Romp in August. Hope to see the new Libby there...very sharp and classy looking boat!!

On another note Bruce was running a solid 110 but lost maybe a few when he went to the IMCO extreme drive. I have GPS photos at 106 and some of the Romp attendies on this board can confirm similar numbers. It's a nice ride but as Jim can confirm they are hard to keep together with that much HP. Outboards are the only sane choice.

Luigi - fly. I really would like to do the romp but that weekend my brother and I are going to Alex Bay for the annual poker run. There was a 30 Spectre on the lake yesterday.Very sharp boat.I am curious about what engines Bruce decided on for his Spectre.Man that is a really big boat.I barely can make time to take care of and /or use a small boat.I hope he know's what he's getting into.A 30 is plenty big if you ask me.I almost bought a 30 thundercat but I couldn't believe how little room the boat had in it.Then the more I looked at it I just didn't want to try to keep anything that big nice.I am fussy about clean etc.
Maybe you guy's should go to alex bay that weekend and do the romp after labor day when the idiots are gone!

Liqui-Fly

Can't do it. Most of the out of towners do family things on Labor Day weekend so they can't get out. This is just an opportunity for the early Rompers to see the other side of the lake...low water with beaches. It seems that we've lost 3 boats this year to Alex bay so prehaps we'll move it next year. To late to do it now.
Not sure what motors Bruce is getting. It's not outboards so who cares?

Now all you have to do is get George to admit to it:rolleyes: He's notorious for "I was catching you" .... I always asked "WHEN".... If you run 84-86 your fast.... I'd rather exagerate on the conservative side & be wrong then be like all these 80mph boats that really run 72!

JIM5656,

I'm attaching a pic of my Liberator. You just bought a very fast and stable boat. I run full of fuel, with wife and easily hit 105 in typical weekend chop. Good water and lightened up 110-115 range is in sight. 110 in hot weather, 115 in cooler dry air. But the real point is that this speed is easily accessible. Don't have to do anything weird, just hang on. Doesn't need a lot of trim and once you get above 90 you can pull all the tab out of it and the boat will just run flat and fast. You're going to like everything about it but the fuel costs. I have put $300 thru it in a weekend. Lots of ponies like lots of fuel. But that's the price. Enjoy your toy. I just happened to see your boat when it was being built in TX. It was the first I had ever seen that had metal flake in the paint and it really showed nicely in the sun. I bought my boat from Dave directly, but although I've never met Randy, I have never heard anything bad about the guy. Believe me, on time as promised is unusual in the performance boat business. Seems that it is not unusual for Liberator.

JIM5656

THANKS FOR THE NICE REPLY AND PIC.BEAUTIFUL BOAT.I AM GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WACKY ENOUGH TO BUY ONE OF THESE THINGS.I WOULD GUESS WITH ALL THE SATISFIED CHATTER THEY WILL BE BUILDING A LOT MORE.I AM GETTING USED TO THE BOAT.THE CATS I HAD BEFORE THIS ONE HAD CENTER PODS.THEY WERE DEFINETLY MORE FLAT RIDING.NOT FUN TO DRIVE LIKE THIS BOAT.I USED TO HAVE A STV THAT ACTED A LOT LIKE THIS BOAT ONLY SMALLER.IT WANTED TO HOP FROM 60-80,THEN YOU COULD DO ANYTHING WITH THE TRIM AND IT STAYED DEAD FLAT.I ACTUALLY TRIMMED THE ENGINE RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER AT 115 ONCE AND LOST MY STEERING TRYING TO GET MORE SPEED.NO SIGN OF BLOW OVER THOUGH.I DESERVED IT THAT DAY.I WAS WONDERING IF YOU PUT TRANSOM MOUNTED WATER PICK UPS ON YOURS.I CAN LOOSE WATER PRESSURE PRETTY EASY IN A TURN OR WITH NOT A WHOLE LOT OF TRIM AT SPEED.LUCKILY IT DOESN'T NEED MUCH TRIM SO IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL.YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT.

Liberator25
07-17-2003, 07:38 PM
I did put low water pickups on. I can still lose water pressure on turns but I have never lost it with trim. Steering is not something my boat responds to very well above 100. At that speed it's pretty much a straight ahead thing, actually it's a little spooky to turn the wheel and have NOTHING happen. The boat is so far out of the water that those little skegs just don't have much influence, :-) This is probably due to my motor hight which has the centerline of the propshaft about 3/4" higher than "normal" which is about 1 1/4" above the boats bottom. The extra 3/4" makes the boat looser and somewhat faster but a little less controlable. At first I didn't like it, but I'm getting used to it now. The boat will really crank on the big end but it is flighty and feels less secure than before. The speed difference was only 3-4 mph so I'm considering giving back the speed to get back the control. More seat time needed to decide. You will also notice that I'm running 4 blade cleavers which are Merc Lab finished 15x34's. 4 blades aren't as fast as 3 blades but a little smoother and are OK for now.

I've attached a pic so you can see the low water pickups. The check valve (the white thing) is now inside the engine cowling and no longer visiable.

What props did you put on JIM5656's boat? I think you mentioned 34's but what diameter and what brand? They look like Mazcos. I have 4 blade 15x34 Labbed Mercs. I am considering going to a 3 blade to get a couple more MPH.

Ron, they were 34X15 3 blade Merc cleavers, Non labbed. I can get them for you for $775 each.

Its me... Gary... I posted once from Jims computer & I guess he can't figure out how to log off & back on again:rolleyes:

So you had a good trip home i take it.... My son hasn't stopped talking about "Randy's Boat" since you left.... He insists we go to Disney so he can see your boat! Maybe thats an good advertising ploy.... you know after the Superbowl "What are you going to do now that you won the Superbowl?" "I'm going to Disney so I can see Randy Corsen's Liberator":D

Freddyspens.... I don't know if we ever met... but I do recall seeing, actually hearing.... your bike making "bonzi" runs across the bridge.... Your Uncle remembers the Carlson with the Chrysler 135BP.... I like that.... makes me smile.... nobody appreciated that boat back then.... residents actually got up a petition to have it banned from the lake.... funny to think of now because there's so many big blocks belching out there it sounds like a stock car race on saturday afternoon... not that thats a bad thing;) .... BTW the red laser was mine...not Jim's... and it is to this day one of my favorites also.... thanks for the trip down memory lane....

Gary.......

BTW.... Good luck in Florida!
