has no low end power, I think anyway. What do y'all think? The 2.5 adapter on the 2.4 engine has got to be a problem right?

I would think this "restriction" would help bottom end, but kill the top end.

Not a problem. However, with the larger openings in the adapter, you would get more on top if you opened the bottom of the block to match the adapter.

Lookin down the barrel of that thing also tells me that you've got a 150 or 175 square tuner.

I found out after buying EFI gaskets for my carbed BP that they are not the same size. The EFI's are bigger. Looks like you posibly have an EFI mid plate with a carbed tuner.

The tuner is made on to the adapter. What you actually see in the pic is the junction of the block with the exh. adapter.
Hey SOSMERC, good point, I probably ought to at least cut the block/adapter junction to a transition.

I have a 2.4 tuner for a efi 91 tuner only $30

Here's the solution to your problem:

Bridgeports are notoriously weak on bottom end anyhow. You might find a little, but I don't think you'll find night and day difference by swapping components around.

I dunno bout that. 9 out of 10 bench racers prefer a G-force tuner

SD, I wouldn't recommend a G Farce tuner for somebody's lawn mower. They break and I've never seen one do anything better than a proper Merc piece.

Well .... maybe it was 4 out of 5. Those bench racers do seem to change their minds a lot.

tuner several years ago for my 175XRi. I was so impressed by the performance that I didn't go to the trouble to take it out before I sold the motor. Hunter, give me the NOS and I'll try it. I was seriously considering just mounting the BP on an old fishin motor tower that has a stock 2 piece exhaust adater w/ a 2.4 200 tuner. What ya'll think? I could chamfer the bottom of the block I guess, but I was thinking maybe a little more back pressure on the exhaust might help the bottom end. Am I wasting time here? I'm not really looking forward to pulling the powerhead unless I can get a decent gain. Also, does anyone know a good source in the Birmingham, AL area for getting heads shaved and CC'ed?

I,m talking really weak bottom end. I had a 2.4 XR-4 that would kill this motor on the bottom. I'm sure I should expect to give up some on the bottom w/ the port timing, but I believe I'm losing something here on the bottom. I'm going to tighten the heads first, then if I'm still not satisfied I'll do something with the adapter and tuner. Thanks for all the input, even you, Hunter, hahaha.

Better to be stepped the way yours is rather than the other way, David Carver says, (and this is way over my head, but he knows about all the scientific stuff) that the step like yours stops the pulses that want to flow upwards (on the walls of the tuner) (like I said over my head), anyway it stops the upward flow on the edges from disturbing the center downward flow, thus not desturbing the center flow, (it was explained to me something like the walls of a water pipe causing a distrubance to the flowing water in the pipe)

I'll just try tightening the cc's on the heads first and then go from there if I'm still not happy.
