I've got an older 1973 rude v4. The tilt motor is shot and the cylinders need a rebuild. I would rather get a fasttrack system.. but.. can it be adapted to fit on my rig? I can make any bracket and drill any hole.. but will it fit.. Has anyone tried?

I am currently doing just about the same thing. I have a 1972 power head that i am going to try to mount to a 1978 power trim unit. The 1972 motor that i have had no power trim to begin with. The lower motor mounts on the mid section are not the same on mine so what i am gonna do is modify the adapter plate from the 1978 to match the power head bolts and use the 1978 mid and trim unit with the 1972 power head.
good luck,
Paul V.

Take a look at the '72 100HP with the facelift that is posted in the 100HP thread in the General Discussions forum. That is a 105 Chrysler Tilt/Trim unit from about '83 or so. The Johnson swivel pin is about 1/16th inch larger than the Chrysler. Simply hone out the nylon bushings on the Chrysler bracket just to fit (they are about 3/8" thick anyway), then cut the lower portion off the Johnson unit to make a spacer long enough to take up the difference in length on the swivel pin. Assemble and tighten the big nut back on the bottom of the Johnson swivel pin with locktight, and you're in business. A couple hour job. Works great, only thing is the Chrysler is a clamp bracket which I'm not too fond of, but this also gives you about an inch and a half to two inches of motor lift off the transom over the stock bracket, and provides a steering tube through the clamp which was a problem with these older OMC's.
