Is there any way to quiet down the roar from a 2.5 Merc 260 without hurting performance. I have lined the cowling with some thin neoprene rubber foam which did help.
Thanks, Carter Powell

My experience has been that the Sport jet (rubber coated) reeds make about half the noise of the regular reeds AND they last forever

i would think you could fab something, using a K&N filter. of sorts. they make lots of styles and sizes and can support big horsepower' they make a pancake like filter, maybe go right on/over your horn...

For intake noise couldn't you just put an insulated cowl from a fishing motor on it? They are much quieter than the lightweight cowls.

dont think it would clear the horn. the pan is also extended forward.

I have already lined the cowling and it did help a lot. The cowling is a 2.4 Bridgeport and there is a space of about 3/4 of and inch between the face plate and the cowling. Under this is an opening for the horn to draw air. If this space was reduced to about 1/8" would there still be enough air for the horn to draw. On the alien cowls the front is totally sealed. carter

check ,where all your cables go into the pan. i use sliced fuel line to seal any gaps around cables. my face plate is lined with closed-cell black foam, factory on a mariner cowl. you dont need much air to feed a 300 h.p.engine. air flow is my speciality, not to brag.
