28 skater minus Jack plates had old 2 strokes on it originally was thinking about powering it with 300rs but what should I run for a jack plate ? When going from the old to new does anything need to change inside the boat rigging wise ? Besides dash board gauges etc.

If you have old 10 pin harnesses everything goes. Figure on new harnesses. New remote fuel filters. I ordered manual engines with HD mid sections and wing plates. Kept my original cable throttle set up and manual helm. I chose 1 3/4 STR plates. I suggest you consider using screens and not gauges. I have smartcraft gauges and a garmin with link to display engine functions. Kind of an all or nothing change IMO

I went from OPTI's to R's. I still had to buy new steering cylinders. If you go AMS full digital engines you'll need new throttles and power steering helm set up too.

Can you keep mechanical steering for the new 300? That involve mounting a different pump in the boat ?

Mine are 22's, There were a number of configurations. My mechanical engines with HD single cylinder trim, [Old style] uses wing plates included with engine. Their is or was a three ram trim with chanfered skeg for single applications And the ATS? with front mount steering for power helm.

I don't know all that is currently available. Mercury racing site offers limited info.

Maybe someone else can guide you more.

I have a capilano helm and Latham side mount cylinders. Old School. I understand the front mount option is for power steering only.

I ordered Mechanical engines with HD mid left and right rotation came with wing plates. The engines are technically digital engines with built in adapter kits for cable throttles and shift.

They no longer offer what Jim has (side ram cylinders). Everything is AMS (front mount cylinders) and you will be best to go with a verado pump for power steering and DTS throttle/shifters. I strongly recommend Porta Brackets if you are looking for the best of all worlds. Boats all require different trim positions for different weight, propellers, wind, and water conditions. X dimension deals with the same variables. Prove to me that there is one trim position that fits all aspects of performance boating then you can convince me that there is one X dimension that does the same (I know better). You can change everything with the touch of a rocker switch. Rough water, drop them down an inch or two and stay hooked up, heavy load-drop the motors, getting on plane-drop the motors, -hauling ass, raise them until you create slip or lose water pressure.

The boat in the ads with Pastrana is a 15 inch? Does only the 15 inch now have side steering?
