Hi Greg, I have a lightning and love it! It's a copy of an stv river rocket, its built tough not a potato chip! Its one of the many diferent types of boats John builds. All of his boats are copys of other boats but that does'nt mean there quality was comprimised in any way .A lot of people would disagree with that but this is america and every body is entitled to there own opinions.John has several offshore word championships under his belt and realy nows his **** .His boats are made with the idustrys best materials and thats important. The cats you are refering to in the clasifieds are a copy of the 21' skater. He has built quit a few of them and they are pertty nice to.I cant speak for anyone but myself but my rig is top notch.Ive never seen a lightning come apart and that means somthing.I asked him to build my boat light and he refused to do so, I run my boay in some pertty rough water here in west florida and these conditions are the kind that will trash a good hull.He had his as well as my best interst in mind when building my boat.If it were only going to be run in rivers or lakes that light boat would have been ok.Some people I'm sure will disagree with me but thats ok .I'll respect any ones opinion even if i feel diferently.Give him a call, and find out more from the man yourself .Remember if your pride isnt getting in the way of owning a copy, you will probably be a happy customer.

I've saw one a few weeks ago. It was 38-40' with triple mercs. A tunnel hull design. It had triple mercs. Sharp boat, talked to the guy for a few min.. He was in a hurry and left.

Welcome to S&F GregP
Lightning is around the corner from my house in Sarasota, FL and I've been at the Lightning shop several times and have seen several different hulls in various stages of layup. I have to say the work is outstanding. These hulls are layed up by hand with excellent materials and layed up to withstand alot of abuse.

I only know John casually and I've got no interest in selling boats for anybody, so my opinion is unbiased.
I would knaw my left arm off for one of his 21 foot cats though......
Just my opinion.....
