I had a damnable problem that would come and go (occasionally one of my carbs would flood out, but not always. Hadn’t done it in a while but today it did). What I found was that I did not have the seat screwed all the way in (my fault). Sometimes the seat gasket would seal, sometimes it wouldn’t.

Anyway, I used the widest screwdriver I have and I made it work, but it’s not wide enough or thick enough to really fit these seats right.

Is there a proper tool for this? Google has shown little (nothing), unless I’m using it wrong. I think once I used a cereal spoon. That was better than the screwdriver but not quite right.

had a cheap, very large screw driver i bought specifically (with a little modification) for tha plugs on tha gear case... later discovered with a little more finessin' it would fit tha seats also....

Dare I say it, but step inside a SnapOn truck and pay the man.

Well at least it’s not just me. I was afraid I was missing something that everyone else has.

Google has not been my friend here. I did find this: https://a.co/d/iQT45Lv and it looks promising.

This looks like the proper tool.

Needle/Seat Remover and Install Tool. 1/2" blade driver - Quadrajet Power Store (https://quadrajetpower.com/needle-seat-remover-and-install-tool-1-2-blade-driver/)

one i saw, captures the jet, so you cant slip off with the driver..

Link? Sounds like a neat tool.

And…

Why are such tools not widely known, where everyone has one? Even blokes like TL had to essentially make his own. Very. Weird. In my eyes.

For reference, I have an Evinrude jet tool. Widely known and widely available.

I wish S&F had a category dedicated to tooling and could be cross linked to technical topics. I've seen discussions on carbs and lower units come up from time to time with great tips on where or how to make tooling needed for the projects.

Whatever happened to allen drive gearcase screws? Slotted head tech dates back 200 years?
