Guys above are correct. And i don't think you ever want to put a thermostat in a 260/280, no poppet to heat the water up enough to make them actually work. With one sleeve it is not needed to do anything just yet besides making sure to warm up the motor before ya get on it. Even 2-3 sleeves, I think once you get to 4 sleeves or more is where you want to look at slowing down the water dumps some by restricting the dump hose from the cover where the poppet would be on a fishing motor. Even may have to look at the dumps in the adapter plate if you get to 4 or more steel sleeves. Some good reading for you in the link if you have not seen this yet.
