Recently came into a second engine. Already have 2.0, horizontal 5 pedal, cut heads short tuner. Came into a 2.4 with un known mods. 2.4 was sold to me as a "rebuilt 200" definitely originally 2.4 150, front half been changed not sure if they ported to try and match the 200 porting. Carbs are still off of a 150. Anyways, both are strong reliable motors, wanting to leave 1 as is on a fishing boat and sink some money into the other for some high rpm fun on something small and light just not 100% sure on which one will get me there better.

Any opinions are welcome.

Neither of those motors is going to wind up easily. You can take either one there but it will require extensive port work. There are champ specs available to port the 2.0L to race spec. It brings them into the 200hp range but there is a loss of bottom end power for this. I have a couple 2.0L and was planning to do this but realistically any 2.5L with next to no mods is going to substantially outperform both of those motors unless you go full beans with the mods and go fast parts. That said a 2.0L with a compression bump is a fun motor I ran one. Same goes for the 2.4 great motor it’s just harder and more time consuming to work them up to big power levels. A finger ported 200 2.4 or an oval port or bridge port would be the best platforms to aim for big 2.4 power but the small bore diameter is the choke and why the bridge was put in the port to keep the rings from catching the hole. The 2.5 solves this with larger diameter bore allowing for much larger ports without the need for the troublesome bridge

Thanks for the input. Im headed out now to pull the 2.4 and see what work has been done if any. Cant tell off the block stamp what it was factory, only has a single B stamped.
Im running the 2.0 at 155psi currently, dang sure is a fun motor.
