View Full Version : Summer Romp - August 23rd and 24th

Last year some of us got together in August for the summer Romp. The lake is down and the beaches are out. Not as much gas burning...a lot more socializing. We still like to make the damn run on Sunday morning though. This time of the year all must take heed to the warning markers and pay attention to channels. A guide is highly recommended. I've orderted sunshine and high temperatures for the weekend of August 24rd and 24th. I may take the 22nd off too.

I'm trying to decide where to stay.

Does anyone have waterfront sites?

There are some sites available across from the water, if fellow Scream and Flyers are on the water, maybe we can keep our boats in all weekend?

If you stay at the Flipp Inn you can keep your boats at the Sport Island Pub.

dont use map quest. get out the map. that freekin crap got me lost 3hrs. they tell you I87 new york thruway to exit 27. what they dont tell you is the thruway turns into I90 (northway) and its exit27 off of that. Im still pissed at that.

There are a suprising number more campsites available during this time. Even in our row there are a few but they aren't lakeside. Maybe if asked nicely the site owners will allow baots to be parked there. The lake will be low by then so the bay may not be as accessable then anyhow. But check out the web site and enter the dates. It does the searching for you.

5 Frasier Avenue Johnstown, NY. If a bunch of you guys are camping I might but I think I'll stay home like last year.

I'm thinking about getting 200 or 201, but the map is so much different than I remember it.

Was 201 the one Tom had with the Checkmate and the Stoker?

Liqui-Fly
07-31-2003, 08:13 AM
It's right around there. I think the Stoker was in a vacant spot so you had Tom's site which was good and then the smaller one right across from Phastboat's. Tom's would be good., He might have said which one he had on the old Romp posts.

I really think we should consider some night boating. That wayb we can hang at the Marina and make some noise without getting yelled at. I'd be happy to guide everyone back. Come on sweet weather!!!!

Of course the pub on Saturday night!!

Sure, night boating is fun.

I got Tom's site. Anyone else in this row for the summer Romp? Anyone have a piece of waterfront real estate they want to share?

Anyone even coming to this one, not alot of talk on this thread....?

I put the break in jets in my motor in 1998 and they have just reached the 10 hour mark. I read this last week in the log book i keep on the yellow boat and i was so depressed that I went out for a beer. This job thing is really starting to affect my boating.:(

It appears that the Flipp Inn is booked. But there are options. Some guys crash in vehicles at the Marina last year...which is fine but camping (tents ect) cant be permitted. It's tough to know the numbers for sure but since the campsite doesn't like a lot of noise and if larger numbers aren't camping....perhaps we can set up around the Marina and in the evenings I can drop the crews off on my way back home at the Holiday inn or Super 8 in Johnstown, NY. I don't drink so it would allow others to party. Or we say F it and just crash in boats cars whatever and do it hippy style. Or we all try to score local chicks hehe. I'm game for anything.

When are you coming...what are your plans? Has anyone called the Flipp Inn looking for cancellations. I know Gary is booked there. We can plan further next Saturday at Zack's Bay.
I will be home until Tuesday next week but then will be gone until Monday. Phastboat and @100plus should be able to asnswer any questions you might have.
