During covid I had a shipper bring a boat and trailer from Canada to upstate NY. It's been in storage ever since. Now I want to register the trailer. Anyone know the best way to do this. I dread going to the DMV.

If you have paperwork, call the DMV info line and ask what forms you need. If you don't have paperwork and just want to register the trailer, you can register it homemade. You will have to get the trailer itself weighed. If it's less than 1000lbs nobody even needs to look at it. If it is over 1000lbs it will need to be inspected. (unladen weight, not capacity) Some of the bigger DMV offices let you make an appointment. When you have an appointment, You are in and out in 15 minutes even when hundreds of people are waiting

I had a title for my trailer from another state and Fl. would not except it , said I had to weigh the trailer because the title did not list a weight . I went back home found a data plate on the trailer with both the vin # and the weight . Took a picture went back to the DMV and they issued me a registration based on the vin plate . Florida does not title trailers , but I kept the title so if it ever goes to a title state , the new owner will have the current registration along with the original title .
