Hiya,
I'm a new member here looking for some advice. I live in Carmel in the Monterey Bay area of California's Central Coast. Can anyone reccomend a top notch Mercury outboard mechanic near me? I recently purchased a 1996 Barefoot Sanger with a Mercury 200 XRI. It is the original motor that came on the boat but had the powerhead replaced early this past summer. I have not yet driven the boat or started the motor. The boat is in pristine condition with a little over 400 hours on it. I drove to Mississippi and back to purchase it. Car troubles in Louisiana prevented me from driving it if I wanted to make it home by Thanksgiving. I have no reason to doubt the PO when he told me that it runs great and he had been barefooting behind it all summer. I have purchased the service manual from Mercury and will be doing the maintenance myself at some point but wanted it to be seen, serviced and tested on the water by a seasoned expert before I even change any fluids. I have been going through the boat and cherrying it out and replacing any little things it needs. I completely dolled out behind the rear seat, replaced sump pump and hoses, installed a new thru-hull discharge, built and installed a battery switch panel etc. Eventually I will bring it to Scott Pellaton at Sanger Boats in Fresno to fix some minor scratches in the bottom hull, repair a couple of screw holes, fill the pitot holes from the mechanical speedos I removed and buff and polish the underside while it is up on slings, then buff and polish the top side and dash. But I really need a Merc outboard wizard near me that I can trust. Help me out guys/gals. Thanks in advance.
