I've recently become interested in the supercharged inline 6 verados. If you're knowledgeable about them please chime in and set me straight. What are the common issues they have? what should i look out for when trying to find one? They seem very heavy, and I know they used to be put on outboard cats. How do they hold up? are the mids, clamps and swivels good in stock form and take all of the offshore abuse? Are the bigger sportmaster cases ratcheting and if not can they be converted? Are these motors easy enough to have a block sent out to be machined and rebuilt them on my own? Also, they're very heavy, where is most of the weight concentrated? Are they just heavy powerheads?

I'm thinking I'd like to rebuild one and turn up as much as I reasonably can because prices are coming down and they seem to be become very common on the used market, as they become old and antiquated. (like my 280) I know theres companies who sell upgrades so it seems like this is a great platform for a bigger single engine hull.

Another alternative seems to be a tuned Yamaha with a sporty (lots of custom work involved with t hat it seems). There's some cools things in the works with those and that market seems to be expanding.

A 300xs might do the job and be a great upgrade in fuel economy but theres a real lack of aftermarket support for them it seems. You cant really modify/tune them much with the direct injection.

The last and most expensive option for me seems to be to get a new 300r, which keeps going up in price.

If i were to get any of these options I would be putting them on a 22 Talon or something of similar size that would at least be able to cope with the extra weight.

Thanks in advance
