Does anyone know if octane booster works or is safe for O/B use? I dont want to get stuck at a marina on the water with only 87 octane gas:( Please give you comments. Thanks, Brad

You can use it. Be aware that boosters usually only raise the level 6 points. Say you have 87.. that would make it 87.6. Another problem is that if the gas sits you could be at ground 0 again(87 octane). Your best bet would be to reduce the timing so that you can run 87 and be safe from detonation or pre-ignition. Unless you are running high compression(more than 135psi) you don't need high octane in a two stroke.

There are lots of weird ideas out there about octane and outboards. Use what your outboard manual calls for. More is a waste of money, less could be a waste of piston tops.
Many years ago, people recommended higher octane gas because it contained better additives. It may have been true then, it no longer is.
As to boosters, I have a link on my links page to a do-it-yourself octane booster page. I also have a link to the gasoline FAQ that answers most questions people have about gas.
