Wogi gave me a phone number for this facility but the number won't answer. I heard that Jim Ruck sold this business to the new owner. I have tried over and over to contact anyone there and there is never and answer or a response to an e-mail inquiry. Anybody know anything about these folks. I hear they do great block repair.

I know nothing about this business but if it were me I would steer clear. If I can’t communicate before the job, what to think communication is going to be during the job? I’m cautious with things that seem iffy from the start. Be careful and good luck.

The website says they can fix any damage. They even sell 260 blocks.

Looks like the number he gave you is wrong. The website has (715) 258-5858
The number I have is his cell number, don't know what your problem is, I just got done talking to him, try calling him during business hours?

Or you can be impatient with a very busy business and take your to stuff to someone else who probably sends it off to him and pay more. Sorry for giving you the tip to have you bash a good and busy machinist because he won't drop what he's doing to accommodate you. My stuff gets done, but I don't pressure or bash the man. Just my way of dealing with someone I want to work for me

Hey Wogi:
I NEVER bashed him at all. I just said that I could not reach him and was wondering why. I tried many times on his cell number but no luck, that is all. When you say I bashed the man that is not true.

What do you call it? Post this thread to question others about the man's integrity? Only to have others post the crap they did? The man is very busy and to have him do what he does I see as a privilege, and like any other artist in this world he shouldn't have to deal with impatient people who are not willing to wait until a very busy man has the time to invest in returning a phone call. I would think that it would be a sign of what it would be like if he were to do work for you, it would be for me. So again sorry I put a friend threw this crap, I know that my calls to him get returned because I call leave message and know that he will return my call when he gets the time, and like me when someone blows up my phone because they think their needs are the only thing I have to worry about, I ignore them. Wish you luck, sorry for trying to help won't happen again

We get it. Can we agree he is really a self employed machinist? A business has operational structure to interface with customers and production procedures. I get people interviewing all the time who say they are business owners (in the contracting world). In reality they are just job fillers with a letterhead. It's gotta be hard with the aging customer base he is working with to scale, then build any type of customer interface procedures. Ruck did the best he could with a shoe string staff at critical mass. Not much unlike it is today.
I have no dog in this fight but I have heard both he does great work to my block has been there almost a year so I don't know what to think. I do know Ruck would call me as late as 9:00 pm with questions on my block. Also as a self employed I have worked ridiculous hours to satisfy a customer. Not as easy to run a business as many think. I wish Ron the best and think maybe an answering service might do him well.

Wogi:
I just don't understand what you are saying. I was just trying to find out some information. You keep saying that I bashed him, that is bull****! I never said anything mean or nasty about him, ever. I don't know the man. I was just trying to get in contact with him, that is all. You are making this up out of nothing. I don't understand your thinking at all. I appreciated you giving me his number, I do, but all I was trying to do was to get in contact with him, nothing more.

I purchased a 225 Promax done by Mag--The machine work was so nice i sent him a 225 PM block--He had it for 8 months i left him Many Messages just to touch base on the work i wanted done--No return calls--Very Unprofessional from a communication level--I sent someone there and had my block picked up--I run a very busy HVAC business but have the Respect of my customers.

Carter. Did you try Chris Carson? He builds powerheads and makes his own reeds. He is reliable and is very well known here on S&F. 1800-329-2725

Hey Carter, move on bro. I personally didn't see anything offensive with your post but to each his own. I've been self employed most of my life & understand both sides of this, being swamped with no help, over worked, under paid etc.. but if i didn't have time to answer the phone i at least had an answering machine with a message that explained why, so I get where you comin from. This is the first time since 2001 that anyone has ever treated me like this Wogi dude. I am 75 years old but if he was standing next to me I would confront him on the way he said what he said. I like scripture in the Bible, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Don't let it bother you Carter. You said nothing wrong. I've seen it before with several vendors. The closer you are the better the service and the farther away the tougher it gets and that makes no sense cuz I have dealt with east coast, west coast, and deep south with no problems. Try Chris Carson or James Perry. Both top notch.

When your "just a paper pusher" you have plenty of time on your hands to belittle someone who actually produces things for a living.
This country was built on mom n pop businesses, some turned into dynasty's while others fell by the wayside.
No one really wants to mess with nik blocks. Course stone set $450 , finish stone set $450 , bottom pressure stone set $450 ya need all three to do the job right.
Semi finished .020 over sleeve close to $500 now. Get the old one out, bore register .018 over , heat block , liquid nitrogen the sleeve , install sleeve , Ooppss didn't make it all the way down or out of rotation ... bore it back out and buy another one.
Ignorant ****'s say What do ya mean it's a thousand dollars to "just" put a sleeve in and hone it ... No thanks , I gotz plenty of other stuff I can throw my time and money away on .
Ruck was smart, he installed bare sleeves (about $200) and walked the block across the street .. had the customer pay to have the whole block recoated (about $1000 or more now) Only way to do it and not lose your azz ... ;)

I received a call from Ron Magdanz at Mag Machining this morning. He seemed very cordial and polite. He apologized for not getting back to me sooner but said he was gone for a while. I explained what happened to the block and he said he was sure he could put it back together again. He asked me to send him a lot of pictures of the damage and parts so I will get the pics to him. I really did not expect a call from him so this was nice. I will try to keep everyone apprised of how this goes. Thanks for all the support guys, Carter Powell

I had Robert Leblanc at Marine Machine in LA do my 280 nik sleeve install. He fixed some other things as well and a 280 head and all was perfect and did take a while, they got lines of blocks to get through. Just my $.02!

Last year I puchased a family owned fabrication and cnc machine business that now supports 42 housholds (and growing), all with health insurance, 401k, and profit sharing. I'm sure that creating jobs doesn't count right? I'm sure you did more for others....I just turned 40 so time is running out for me to just push some paper....

That's awesome, would love to hear the backstory/ market your company serves. Could be a thread of its own. There is a serious need to keep manufacturing here. We're becoming a nation of cubicle farmers.

Glad to see you joined the other side ..
Since you bought it rather than build it from the ground up, did you ever think for a minute that it might have started out with one guy and an idea .. ???
At 66 years old , old , old .. I'm way past my prime .. but I still produce something every day, do the paperwork and sweep up afterwords .. on little jobs that you titans of industry would think are beneath you .. :smiletest:

I try. Seriously I have tried.
The last 5-6 threads I've started that were related to boats
and boats only literally got 1 post chat at best.
So I guess people come on here for other reasons now.
I still just like the boat stuff myself.
Dago.
So because your thread didn't go 10 pages .. you give up ???
Most people can't relate to a F-1 type boat, so maybe they don't respond ... but they do look.
I've put finger prints on parts you made. Told the owner what I thought. I've worked for enough street racers to know what "customer confidentiality" means. ;)
I noticed that the ones that point fingers and throw the biggest rocks .. aren't willing to make a small payment once a year to keep the site going ..
And yes, when the gov. tries to shove EV's down our throats and the parrots just say whatever MSDNC brainwashes them into saying, then YES .. I'm going to say something. I really don't care what the lefties on here think. If gas / diesel was like 8 mm Kodak film and fell by the wayside to something better , then yes, even I would be onboard .. till then, drill, baby drill .. get over yourselves, if they stopped selling gas / diesel tomorrow morning the whole country would crash by the weekend.

I've been posting about boat drag racing, circle racing, and offshore and it always bothered me how little interest has ever been
giving to boat sporting events, where I grew up (and Dago, ) we had two large races per year on the Niagara
river, while I never wanted an inboard boat of any kind I still looked forward to watching them, I guess we all have different
experiences in life that develop who we are.
considering this is Scream and Fly, yeah I expect more interest also

About six years ago, I gave Ron a try. He replaced the sleeve in the wrong hole. Then I put my bore gauge in and it was 10,000 too small. I sent it back to him and this time he did the right hole to the right specification. He refused to accept payment for the work. Ron‘s biggest problem is communication.
It would be better if he would tell people he can’t get to your project for a year or more, if that works great, if not, find somebody else.
