Hello everybody,
An upcoming change that will be implemented on the site will remove all Google banner ads for Team Members/Supporting Members and Supporting Vendors throughout the entire site. This should take effect within the next week or sooner.
If anybody would like to support the site (https://www.screamandfly.com/payments.php), it is tremendously appreciated and more importantly, a vital part of keeping us going.
For those wanting to become a Team Member, you can do so at this link here (https://www.screamandfly.com/payments.php).
Thank you everybody,
Greg

Much of the work was already completed months ago, so it won’t cause issues. Actually, it will speed the site up due to less server loads.

Far above my pay grade!
Back when Greg asked us to turn off our add blocker earlier this year, I did so. Other than a few extra adds on the side bar .. not much changed. Certainly wasn't in the way .. and no where near as dreadful as the copy and paste garbage .. ;)

Right now when anybody visits news or media sites, there are so many ads there that the websites are nearly unreadable. It's really annoying. So I don't blame people for using ad blockers (but I am very thankful for you whitelisting this site), but I try to keep the ads here as least-invasive as possible. Google inserted an overlay at the the bottom now but I already submitted the change to remove it. Now and then Google runs "experiments" with ads that I feel are too intrusive. Those ads earn a lot more money but they kill the site's enjoyment in my opinion.
With the site's data costs raised another $95/month (just found out this week) and the near universal use of ad blockers now, this site will ultimately get squeezed out of existence. Probably why this is one of the only independent large forum-sites left. I think BBC is still independent but that's about it. This site will never ever be sold to a media company.

Why the aversion to that? My friend sold his forum to vertical scope, made a decent amount of money, and kept his role as an administrator. He, a long with all the people in the group see little of any difference between before/ after. You may enjoy the support you receive from an outside vendor.

Thanks S&F, you've been doing fantastic lately keeping the AI bot spam drama at bay; allowing the real value of S&F content to continue to compile. The general discussions area is again enjoyment for me to peruse and was able to pick up a cat from the sell marketplace recently. I know its not easy keeping it moderated but very appreciated (sent a bit more your way). Thanks again.

Yes, Vertical Scope made several inquiries over the years to purchase this site. Nothing wrong with VS specifically. The issue with me is that selling this site means turning over its database of all email addresses to a company that will very likely lease that database to marketing companies. That’s something I decided that I do not want to do.
