So now pro marine is the sole distributor of wiseco pistons, and of course the price went up drastically. Sucks about the lack of competition when it comes to parts. I thought there were laws against monopolies?

Is Wiseco not offering dealerships to anyone else? If you called Wiseco and said that you had a million bucks to invest in a parts business and they said they were not interested, then I would say that is fishy.
Just tried to buy some Vertex but they were out so against my better judgement I went with Wiseco. Small 4 cyl will probably be OK. Killed several sets in a Bridgeport and swore I would never use them again.

I always add an extra.001 clearance for the wiseco. That is another sole distributor deal with pro marine/vertex. They have their house brand pistons, which it seems they push more than the vertex. Wiseco pistons prices went up something like 25$ per piston since pro is the only distributor.

I'm giving Wiseco a crack on my 2.5L build. My machine shop swears by them for these motors he says the problem of yesterday has long been rectified and the only thing you have to be careful with is gentle warm ups and longer break in period. Get on the hammer too soon with forged is a recipe for cold seize. I guess I'm going to find out real soon

My latest build, a 260, used Wisecos. I was able to eventually sort through a box full and weigh them all, choosing the ones I wanted, thanks to a dealer friend. I then weighed my set of Chatfield rods, marking them by weight like I did the pistons. LSS, I was able to match the heaviest rods with the lightest pistons, and vice-versa, and achieve a set of 6 rods/pistons that weighed within 1 gram of each other, with no metal relieving. Break in was done over the course of several trips to the river, with many heating/cooling cycles. This is what my engine builder recommended. At the end of the summer I had a very strong and slick running powerhead, that I fully expect to live a long time (I don't race it, but I use all the power it's got occasionally). This sheet was the preliminary match-ups, before i went through some more pistons to find a couple that were closer to the right weight. The numbers are the weights in grams.
