thats what i get for buying an old salt water motor :D

i pulled the power head (still running, sure felt wierd usually do that because it blew up) to go ahead and pull the mid section and the mid plate to get to the tuner

shorepounder came over and we went at it, well it didnt cooperate at all!!!!!!!!!

took forever to get the powerhead off, it's been on there so long the long studs had frozen even though i used never sieze on them, my temper was starting to flare and ole pounder kept a steady easy pace that kept me from takin a sledge to the b@#^ch we got that off and tucked away in the garage

now we have a new problem, this motor has been together forever and when i bought it, it was from the salt water of south florida, i rebuilt the power head but never messed with the rest, didnt have to, now the tuner fell into the offshore exhaust dump and we gotta go in and fix it, and the damn tiller bolts are frozen to the one piece mid plate, we look at the bolts in the back of the mid plate and it's studs that run down into the offshore mid section and those 3 studs are frozen also

pounder says hell lets pull the whole clamp and all off and i'll fight with it at work with hydraulics.........cant argue with a man when he's right and got an easier plan :D looks like this is gonna take awhileto get done

so now heres a pic of what i got to go boating with

so what does a man do since he had such a sh@#tty day and didnt accomplish what he wanted to?

he goes to publix and buys a 12 pack, and heads to the seafood area gets large bay scallops, collosal shrimp, mahi-mahi, snowpea pods, zuccini, lemon herb sauce, a pineapple and a coconut and kicks back and drinks beer while he smells it cookin :D

turn on the stereo, sit back with my sweetie have a few drinks and forget this crazy world exists!!! ;) :D :D

Damn Talon the meal looks damn tastey!!!

That would have gone good with my BBQed trigger fish topped with sauted shrimp and coverd in cheese sauce.

Sorry bout the bad luck I know how you feel. I just get a real engine on my Allison and now I have to tear it apart and get a cyl sleeved.

Skip, If you need any of those parts blasted, plated or anodized you know who to call......

Skip,
I deal with these "salty dogs" all the time. Matter of fact I bought a blown up '94 150 Mariner last week for $50.00. I.m putting my 2.4 200 on it cause the colors match the Bayliner better and I can get rid of the clam shell cowl. I had all the problems you had last night. HEAT is the answer. Propane isn't hot enough. I use a oxy/acetylene torch and heat up the exhaust plate where the four long studs are while there is tention on the powerhead. I use a piece of sheet metal to keep the flames off the rubber parts. I had to heat up each side 3 or 4 times before it started to lift off. Before assembly, I'll run a drill bit through the holes then coat the studs with grease. After the nuts are on I'll smear some grease over the nuts and exposed threads so next time it'll come right off.

It's guaranteed that the two bolts in the center of the plates (on a stock 2 piece adapter) will break. Usually there is enough sticking out that once it's apart a little heat and some vise grips will take the rest out.

I've tried soaking, beating, etc, but heat is your friend. Good luck!!

Hey Ron, Thanks for the info. I was kinda thinking the same thing. Put a little pressure on it then bring on the serious heat. I've got his mid with me and I'll take it into work on Monday and fire up the blue-tipped persuader. You'll have to excuse us, we're just a couple of spoiled rotten freshwater boys. :D :D

I had to heat up my old clamp bracket to get the broken steering tube out of it. What a mess!! It took a lot of time, but I finally got it out.

hey Skip dad just finished putting together a 2.6 gt you can that motor!!!:D just kidding bro sorry to hear the bad news i'm sure pounder will fix you up and you'll be back in no time at all i'll give you a call later!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence bro. I'll get it taken care of one way or the other. The same tip that heats it up also cuts it so if the first one don't get it, I know the second one will ;) Of course, the second method does open up a whole 'nother can of worms, but hey what Skip don't know.... well, you know ;) shhhh I shouldn't say this out loud. You know how he gets :D :D

i appreciate the thoughts guys!!

wile e coyote, i definately have to be ready to do that run we talked about after the rumble, if it isnt ready i'll still be calling wildman and we can meet up with you guys and go check his spot out

i was pretty pissed off that this thing was so solid and stuck, then pounder said he could take it to work and do what alaska streaming is saying so we pulled the whole thing and loaded it in his truck, if pounder got apart the one he had that i woulda thrown away if it were mine, then i'm sure he can whip this ones ass

with the other stuff i gotta get done before the rumble i shure aint in no hurry to get back into my motor right now ;)

but hey with it torn down this far might go for a custom paint job on the ole motor parts now :D

A little bit of heat and a whole lotta brass headed persuasion. Or the other way around.... then again, it may have been equal parts of both.

ShorePounder

Not nearly as bad as we had thought. Looks like the tuner's been hanging on two studs for awhile. Check the two wallowed out holes. :D

Looks like the PO of this stuff started to do a little tuner trimming then thought better of it :D

Oh yeah, Vic (my buddy at work) says you owe him a diet coke for having to hold parts and chase hammers (you ain't got the exclusive on hammer pitchin :D )

Here's the only bad spot on the mid. Might need a little welding and redrilling done here. Nuttin major I don't think.

I got the other Midsection and clamp bracket apart. No heat required just a little Blaster. Had we not been pinched for time Saturday, we could have gotten that one apart at the house.

Not bad for a Monday, Not bad at all  :D
