I have a 20ft Pro line with a Mercury 125hp. When I transport it to the boat ramp I tilt my Mercury up. The 2 stroke oil leaks out of the oil resovoir all over the inside of my Mercury motor all over transom. Therefore I can only fill the oil resovoir a little above half way to avoid any spills. I think deleting the oil and removing or not using the oil resovoir is the best way to go so I can use the lock for the motor when I transport to the boat ramp. Could someone offer any previous posts on oil deletes for 2000 Mercury 125hp? Or some pictures?531365531366531367

If it's coming from around the cap, do you need a new one or the seal around it?

I tried a new cap for the oil reservoir before creating this post. It still leaks out when the motor is trimmed up while transporting the boat to the ramp. The only fix I have found was filling the reservoir half way with 2 stroke oil.

Why do you tilt the motor that far up... it seems like it must be mounted way too low on the transom if you have to do that?

I have had several of those motors. The oil tank should not leak when tilted. Filling the tank halfway is not a fix. Make sure the seal in your new cap is in correctly. not twisted or deformed where it makes contact with the tank. Look for a burr on the tank rim. Look closely at the tank for a crack. Fill the tank. Tilt the motor with the covers off. Look for where it is leaking from. If you have to take the tank off. It come off easy.

Been involved with a number of the 2 plus 2 (100 thru 125)motors with oil leaks. Make sure the duckbill vent is not leaking or missing. (missing is quite common). It is on the top of the tank and many times is the leaking source. Other advise is excellent, check cap first. You can buy the duck bill separately. Hope this helps.

When I trailer the boat I tilt the motor up locking it in place. Then it leaks 2 stroke oil. I will have an opportunity tomorrow to check the resovoir for cracks and the duck bill.
