Curious how many hours this takes a shop with all the right tools to do a complete swap of guts from one case to another? Trying to get a grasp on the workload involved as I havent done one before. Thanks

It can be 2 hours or it could be 10. Depends on how lucky you get with the shimming

Thanks that makes sense. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of how long it takes if all goes well for someone experienced like you and two hours is it. It’ll probably take me two days lol

No but I do have a new Geigertech billet carrier for the install and will be installing new bearings so the heat wrench is an option if it does t cooperate. It don’t look too bad. Freshwater stuff

j just put in seals in my l/w. 150v6 40yr old fresh water from day 1. it took a 40'' pipe on the merc tool to crack the collarwith about 25 lbs on the end. some serious torque. my guess 300ft lbs, & a hail mary, she came off fine.

Spec is 200 ft lb. Then years of getting salt or calcium buildup...probably did take 300. When I take them apart I crack the nuts if they are too stuck. Safer to crack the nut out than pull it and gall the housing threads. The old merc nuts were easier to crack. The ones they started making in the last 5 years oh boy. People are gonna have a fun time taking apart the cases I'm building now in 10 years lol. They totally changed the manufacturing process and the aluminum is about 3 times as dense. No cracking that nut.
