In both of my heads between the top cylinder and next one down the is a sensor which looks like a possible head temp sensor? The one on the port side is tan/light brown and goes to starboard side and terminates with bullet connector on it and i can't find a place to plug it into and not sure exactly where it goes? the one on the starboard side is tan with a stripe I believe and goes to wiring harness on starboard side maybe for warning buzzer? i didn't hear buzzer go off when it got hot first time out and gauge in dash didn't read either and haven't got behind dash yet to see what wire is hooked to gauge yet. wanted whatever info i can get to fix it.

You are correct. Striped is for buzzer. Take a short piece of wire and jump from the terminal block that that striped goes to on stbd side and jump it to ground with the key on. The buzzer should ring. If it doesn't your buzzer is bad or wiring is not connected.
Port temp sender with bullet conn. should hook to the main boat wiring harness where the 9 pin connector plugs into the engine harness. There should be a couple extra female bullet connectors one of which is tan like the sender wire and you plug into that. Don't plug into the dark brown with white stripe bullet...thats your trim sender. However. the early boat wiring harnesses did not have those extra bullets. If you don't then you gotta run an extra wire to the dash to make the temp gauge work.

I have been running my dash analog water temp gauge off the block temp sensor on the port head. Promax and 280 both run around 180-190 so I am assuming the calibration is not correct (Too hot!!).
FYI my actual water temp in the 280 (starboard head) never gets much over 120, usually 115-117 when running (digital gauge).
