Morning:
I have a pair of 2005 300X, unfortunately our local Mercury dealer will no longer stock the Advanced or Premium 2 stroke oil and their stock is already gone.

I currently have a choice of Yamalube or Caltex TC-W3 Oil, unless I can bring it in to Bahrain by another means.

I have read many articles over the years for the 300X oil and I know the engine seems to be particular in Fuel & Oil requirements.

Any thoughts or recommendations out there, please ?

Many thanks for your help.

Best wishes,

Nick

Run what you have available. If concerned,.. add a little extra to the fuel.
I think merc may have changed their receipe a few years back anyhow. Seems like a thinner oil these days. Squeaked a chainsaw just the other day on it.

Which oil do you buy from merc? The red race oil or the blue standard? I haven't noticed a difference in the oil but I don't buy the red race either...

The blue synthetic blend.
About 3 years ago, the label changed at my local retailer. Although, I still see the yellow label for a little more money from time to time?... Maybe, I'm just trippin, but I swear it smells different also?
I was getting the old stuff for $20 on sale. Now they want $35, and barely keep it in stock.

I know it was my own fault with the chainsaw. I had it way too lean for what I was doing.

Project farm does a good video on two stroke oil, there is a difference, but like Chaz said the other day, 2 stroke engines ran on 30 wt oil for years.
In a pinch it doesn't bother me to run what is available, and add a little extra oil. Might get flogged for it, but just my 02.

will your dealer order a case of it at a time for you, if you pay in advance?

I haven't tried. That oil came from a big sporting goods store, or box store (no help there).
The local merc dealer, I'm sure would do that for me.

I really should get something better for my mx bikes and ported chainsaws. I ran hp2 honda 100% synthetic oil for years, with good results. They get $15 a pint for that stuff nowadays. Ouch! But I never seized a engine using it.

In the US you can order whatever you want. Bahrain, where Op is from,.. I would probably be happy for something that said Yamaha on it.

Walmart has free shipping over $25. Try different ways of searching on there site. 3 years ago I was messing around on there site and found buying 4,6 gallon cases (24 gallons) of pennzoil xlf $13 a gallon by bulk free shipping. It was free shipping and it was shipped second party seller from Zoro.

Firstly many thanks to everyone who replied to the post, that's much appreciated.
I have the choice of Caltex (yet to find that in stock !) or Yamalube, plus Optimax DFI oil.
I am currently trying to bring Mercury Premium plus in from Saudi, as I currently work there. However they also have the same choices of availability, as of now.

If necessary I will use Yamalube as has been suggested by a few now, there was something in the back of my mind for two stroke oil & the 300X ...
Would the DFI Oil be an alternative if needed ?

Again many thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Cheers,

Nick
