Apparently they are directly interchangeable. Looks like the four petal is a significantly bigger hole and a significantly bigger petal.

no one has any thoughts on this? there are so many of both out there. somebody must have done a flow test to compare...

Five over coated four, work the five.
I've measure the fives I use and they have more area than the four.
Fours if you stripped them clean and work them are good. Fours break reeds.
Use CCM

So, they went to a less expensive setup. Not a performance increase. Why aren’t people replacing them with earlier 5 petal setups?

Plenty to read on the subject of cages, reeds if you use the S&F library, search it.

I use 4 with stripped rubber and port the opening and have been very pleased and I don't use the holder with stops built in , custom Reed also ,

Does this setup offer significant advantages over a stock five petal? Or is it mostly the case that four petal is what you had already so you worked with what you had?

I choose 4 pedal. Used to run the 5, but I didn't turn back after runnin the 4 if you gonna use cages stock I'd run 5, if u gonna strip rubber and massage em little, I like the 4. Really can't do a whole lot with the 5 without getting them to thin imo
