Mercury 175 Bb Block Questions

All,

One of the listed boats that I'm inquiring about has a Mercury 175 "Bb" block engine. Bb is the spelling that the current owner provided. He states that it's been worked on and puts out close to 200 horsepower. I saw a lot of good info in another thread here concerning block code/designations. Are there any good or bad things that I should know about this engine? I apologize in advance for the lack of information that I'm able to provide past the block code. I'm also interested in any questions that I should be asking the owner.

Do some research. To my limited knowledge a BB block is a 150. The 175 block is a CC. Good luck.

If you read the title on the upper left of this famed pic you posted it says "guide to 2.5 and 2.4" NOT 2.0L. Yet it does have one 2.0L motor not it :confused:. Who made that thing.

However: BB is not a 2.0L. BB is a 2.5L 150hp block. AA is a 2.0L 150. So his BB woulda been from an EFI or Offshore or xr6. If it was a 175 block it woulda bee CC.

CC has notched sleeves yes. Chest is cool when you cut it it all away :p

Weird. I guess mercury does have a habit of throwing whatever they have on the shelf together. And so do old school dealers lol.

it is MERC.. think tha hi perf. side was worse, especially with their badging, or use ta be anyway...
