so the final de-salting measure on the formerly salt, 2.4/200 I bought last summer to put in to use this summer... I took the exhaust cover/divider off for inspection cleaning de-salting. Fortunately the bolts were all healthy enough to come out without snapping off, if not a bit rusty. I'm debating between just replacing them all and clean/wire brush, and re-use. Either way, new or re-use, they were put in dry.

This motor will be all fresh water all the time, now. But I still hate to put them in dry. I was thinking of anti-seize plus some Permatex #3 (aviation form a gasket). That's just my everything plus the kitchen sink, wag.

What do you pros do here?

271 Loctite.

The high strength stuff? Does that make it so the cover is on permanently? Or will the heat from the exhaust make it so that you can remove the bolts later if need be?

Aviation form a gasket. Seals the threads to corrosion and wont loosen up until you want them out. Cheap too.

It's what the manual calls for. There are two reds, 271 and 262. 271 is high strength and 262 is permanent. Do not get 262 anywhere near Mercury aluminum unless you want to remove threads.

I blue loctite in the exhaust divider bolts. Never had a problem. Permatex is not a bad call either.
