Mid-80’s 175, 2.4 chrome bore, oil injection deleted. How do I test to see if my overheat alarm is working?

Here's (https://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?350000-Is-there-a-way-to-test-Mercury-outboard-overheat-alarm-with-a-pan-of-hot-water&p=3393129#post3393129) what worked for me, a couple of days ago...

Powered test light I've had better luck than with an audible continuity tester.

Off to test another one now as we speak...

...Aaand... Test complete. The overheat sensor works. TLJKW in the thread I linked said he's never seen a bimetallic button fail.

small jumper wire from the terminal block that has the tan wires on it on the engine stbd side by electronics plate and jump to ground with the key on in the control box and alarm should ring. That tells you the buzzer works and has 12v on key-up. If you are worried about the temp sensor itself in the head I heat the head up with a heat gun being careful not to melt any rubber. It should ring the alarm at about 180 deg F
