Is that this white box between the plate with the coils on it and the exhaust chest? And is it worth the prices I have seen? And do people actually need them?

And oct 29. 90. Build date. Is this a 2.4 or 2.5? there is no serial number on the #2 cyl freeze plug. the #1 cyl plug has 200 stamped on it. and no tag down low on the clamp. and BTW, when you test fire a motor that has been resting, make sure the black-yellow kill wire is accessible. yanking all the plug wires 1 at a time...

These things are 100% crap and will totally burn your motor and maybe your boat down. Do you need the 40 A for your charging system? If not, there are a lot of options. You can drop in a 16 amp flywheel and just run a regular rec/reg for $30. There are some nice setups for swapping to this one and keeping the 40 amps. My water cooled unit literally caught on fire on the water. I used 2.5 fire extinguishers on it but it would reignite from the battery. Baaaaaad chit.

Check the sh847 rec reg.

I ran a pair of the $30 cheapo’s in parallel on my 40 amp flywheel for a few years and it was fine. Now I’m 16A with cheap rec reg

i am parting this 90 2.4 out. so i guess i will test the rectifier and put it aside. maybe package it with the flywheel and stator as a set. once i get one to actually build and keep, i will use the 16 amp version. you don't need subwoofers when fishing the flats. scares ALL the bonefish away. not just the ones within a mile of your boat...

i can see it with efi. OTOH you can probably build a rectifier that will handle anything these motors will put out by cannabilizing a GM car alternator.

Totally off topic, but Derek I got the pistons today. They look great. Packaging was on point. I'll get the rods back out to you sometime next week.
Those regulators are junk imo...I never knew anyone that was looking for one. Regular rectifiers & 2 wire regulators do just fine.

i just see the prices on ebay and boat places and think "there is a sale!" back to off topic apparently the block is in lost hills CA. sez monday. and i got this 90 200 apart. now i see how scarce a good chrome bore motor is. ya know? toss the rods. i gotta grab the front block half for this second horiz reed setup. it will take me 10 minutes to strip crank and rods outta this block that needs at least 3 sleeves. oh, and drilling stuck mount studs works good.
