A man was telling another guy that with the stainless plate that he did not need the motor mounts underneath on a mercury 200up V6

So you do not need the top motor mounts when you use the one piece plate...correct?

...on an older mercury v-6 200, with the standard powerhead sandwich adapter plates under the powerhead, yes, you definately use the upper mounts. only know one company that made stainless steering plates back in the day, that actually went right under the powerhead, using the stock/standard sandwich plates, and that was latham marine. latham would also machine down the thickness of the stock 200 adapters to accept those special thin steering plates. it was a long time ago & those particular s.s. steering plates are no longer made by latham & have'nt been for decades. latham later came up with a different design plates that attached to the standard 200 by a different means. now, as dave above mentioned, if you exchange the standard 200 merc upper motor mount sandwich plates for a solid upper powerhead adapter plate, that does not have rubber mounts, but simply two large studs in the front of it, than thats another design rear s.s. steering plate design & attaching method...
