Im sure this has been a subject a few times. Not very smart on these motors yet but figuring them out. I have a 1986 mercury xr2 150. Im having cylinder work done rite now and replacing some electrical components. The oil was sorta deleted when i baught this moter but i want it deleted all the way while i have it apart. Do i need to delete the pump on the crank or only do the oil delete lil plastic rod in place of the oil pump on side of motor. Please forgive me for not having correct terms.

Only do the oil delete lil plastic rod in place of the oil pump on the side of the motor.
Once you do that, nothing touches the plastic gear on the crank any more... you just leave it (unless you look in the pump hole and see it's falling apart or something).

Ok thanks i already have the motor apart getting bored and honed and crank is out and all exposed
Leave the gear on the crank unless it has been compromised.

Ok one last thing for now baught motor last year and the cowl strip that stays mounted to motor said 100hp the block is stamped 5 which is 150 2.0 from what i have read and the cowel its self says xr2 and the mid section serial number tag is ob221498. But if its a 86 xr2 150 i cant find the parts for this when they give options for serial number 172..... through oa.....
What am i missing?
