Hey folks,
I haven't had my HO for about 15yrs. I'm looking at a boat that has a 2000 225HO on it and the owner says the powerhead was replaced in 2009. What I'm trying to remember is I thought there was a way to distinguish a 225ho block by the exhaust hump or water passage or something on the outside of the block. I may be wrong on that. The only other way I know of is to measure the port heights inside the sleeve. I guess I could pull a main jet and look for 76d..?????
My fear is the 2000 HO powerhead was replaced with a regular 3.0....225 powerhead. If that's the case I wouldn't want the motor.
Thanks folks.

200 & 225 same powerhead ..only difference is carb size. 225 has raised exhaust port timing and jetting of .072D thru .078D jets

225 HO has wider (same height) exhaust ports and smaller exhaust bleed holes in the sleeves.
About 110 - 115 lbs compression Vs 95 - 105 for 200/225.
200 - 225 is carbs only.
If the HO has a new powerhead I’d be suspect of the new one.
99% of people replacing/rebuilding the HO have no clue to their differences.
Ive bought several.
A tough verification w/o a stock one to compare with.
If compression is not in the listed range, it’s probably a stocker.
You can see the bleed holes w/a bore scope or by popping a head (which seller will likely not allow you to do).
Stock homes are close to 1/4” OD where the HOs are about half that.
Good luck.
Great motors.

Yep-I' ve got a 2000 225 HO I bought in the box for $7,800 CAD after the bankruptcy. Has under 500 hrs.-been problem free/got rid of VRO-does 82 on a Checkmate Pulse 185!

Great motors!
Under appreciated for sure.
Id like to have a pair on my Convincor.
The one problem w/them was the dealers didn’t know what they had and to educate their buyers.
Dealers didn’t know they had higher compression and to inform owners on needing better fuel.
I proved this after buying a pair from an E-etc dealer in Fla.
I took tools to ck compression but was running late (east coast Fla to west coast and back) so selling dealer agreed to do.
I arrived to see 100 psi written on all 12 holes, knowing they should be 110 - 115.
I stuck a bore light in a hole to verify HO ports, rolled the dice and head east w/them in my truck.
Got hone and w/(a flashlight, motors sill in truck, and checked compression.
115 on all 12!
