3.0 merc lower unit questions

I just picked up my first boat. A 22 velocity with a 2004 merc efi 250 on the back. The Skeg was broke so I dropped the lower unit and noticed it has a coupler with another driveshaft on it. A two peice driveshaft. Is this ok for use in a high speed application? Im going to end up replacing the lower unit and I was wondering if I should get one with a one piece 20 in shaft

Iv never seen it before. I figured having a one piece shaft would be better. One less area for failure
