Those engines were anything but "stock". Exhaust tuners were limited production configurations. Special carbs, heads, etc. I never did see the RPMs the top 3 finishers had. Propellers were blamed for my RPM problem on a frequent basis...........Bridgeports were NOT stock fishing motors.

I can imagine :D They do look like they're turning a bit more rpm than stock as well. Just like any form of racing, the early days are the best before they tighten up on verifying all the rules. The early days of NASCAR comes to mind with Smokey Yunick, serious rule bending and loop holes. Nowadays they're so similar its incredibly boring.
