A few years back I made a set of expansion chambers for a 2.5 merc but got distracted by another project and left the chambers on the back burner. The chambers weigh six pounds ea and are made from 304 stainless. I have made several expansion chambers for other engines and put a lot of thought into these. The power peak should be close to 8,000 rpm with a somewhat wide power band. The smaller the stinger the higher the internal pressure in the pipe will be and also the risk of detonating the engine is higher. The stingers are larger diameter than ideal but risk of damaging the engine is very low. If you have the equiptment to adapt these to a 2.5 and are interested, contact me. Access to a dyno is a plus. The chambers can be cut and welded into a more compact shape without effecting performance. The sound generated should be amazing to a gear head but not a big hit to people living nearby! 513011

I'm playing with a BB 2.5 (was a 150 EFI) block. Raised the exhaust ports a little and opened the exhaust chest a little. When finished, my plan was to break in and run it hard as a possible back up carb motor for the enduro.
Wish I had the know how to adapt these headers to this test motor. Would love to hear it sing.

I made set of chambers for a four cylinder 44 cu in merc and gained almost 50% more hp, but I don't think the 2.5 would see a gain like that due to it already having a pretty good, well thought out exhaust system from the factory.

Seems I remember him saying it was not all that successful. Could be wrong though as I am old and memory is iffy.

He said there was no use persuing it any further since the only way the sanctioning bodies would let him run the pipes was in exhibition runs.
