Mercury top pin pistons for a promax

Looking for the part # for a ring set [chrome rings] std.top pin pistons for a 225 1998 promax with steel sleeves ?

never seen an oem top pin pro max piston??? ya may need ta call US1 John Marles.....

They never had top pin pistons. I assume he's tryna put top pins in a steel motor to spin more rpms than side pin...in that case some wise person told me to buy a set of standard chrome rings and under cut them to work with the top pin piston....not sure if I'm allowed to say that or not

Not to spin it up just to have it reliable with top pin pistons cause it is at some time going to loose a side pin like they all do,just a matter of time.

So do you already have a set of top pinned pistons or are you looking for a set? As mentioned, John can pin yours from the top if yours are in good shape.

Already have a set of mercury factory top pin pistons but cannot seem to find a set of chrome rings for them to put into my promax.I my have to modify a promax set.?

i've run tha "gold" rings on steel without any problems before.. jus didn't run them for a very long time.. maybe 20 hrs at most....
don't know what they would do in cruiser?

don't know what they would do in cruiser? To spendy for gold rings as i just put a set in my 280.I'll get a set of promax rings and modify then for the top pins.

Thanks doc i was wondering that as i was on promarine's web site last week but was not sure what they call prostock rings.Probably should have called them.

WC2 is a Wizard ring, not sure they will fit a mercury piston. We do know WT2 rings do not fit his mercury top pinned pistons. Basically, Wizard rings do not fit Mercury pistons, Mercury rings WILL and DO work in Wizard pistons.

ive ran them in merc single ring pistons and dual rings pistons and have turned them pretty hard on my drag boat !

Interesting. We put a WT2 ring on a Mercury top pinned piston and it binds up. We put the T2 ring on the same piston and it is fine (Merc Gold ring).

Thank you for the posts, as there are many different factors that may play why it worked for you and maybe not for us on this specific set of pistons. Maybe the WC2 would work, but probably not buying them to find out! John also confirmed today that he has these chrome rings ready to ship for a Merc top pinned piston.

***EDIT*** The Wizard ring was from the Wizard 9999 lightweight race piston, maybe it was not a WT2 ring that comes with the Wizard pistons ProMarine sells. That could be the issue we ran into trying to put that specific 9999 race piston ring on a Merc top pinned piston.
