The car in question was a 1907 White Steam car. In 1906 there were more White steam cars on the road than any other car. Its hard to imagine steam cars outselling internal combustion cars, especially after watching the video that shows the starting procedure. Hand crank gas engines were seen as even more dangerous to start prior to electric starters.

As a kid, the neighbor up at the cabin had a whole slew of arm and leg breaker hand crank/ kickstart stuff. The tractors were always fun to see who could get them going. The best was an old knucklehead Harley. I was aboot 10-11. He told me if I could start it, it was mine. But I better go get my boots on first, soni don't break my ankle. He still owns it, btw. :D
