hi guys,
bought a brp oversize piston kit recently, (cost me over 200 dollars) and clearly marked on the box in small print , made in china.
what is going on here? can i trust this part to do more than 10 hours work?
any one care to comment? thanks

Because it was made in China may indicate the BRP had little interest in OMC spare parts support (out sourced). Variables may be dimensionaL, machining, heat treat, alloy selection, etc. Original OMC parts origin (for anything) is long gone. Life expectency may depend on how you intend to use the engine?

Oz1 , your tough to drag info out of ... so you will find it just as hard to get info in return .. :o

Is the piston kit for a 235 or a 9.9 horse ?

Did it come in a new BRP box, or a bunch of loose parts thrown in a sammich baggie ?

How does it look compared to the old piston ?

Did you weigh an old .. to the new ?

Casting flash inside .. comparable .. better , worse ?

Machining, finish, locating pins ... ???

Lot's of stuff made in China .. that you wouldn't suspect. Some good parts come out of there ... :smiletest: some, not so much .. :nonod:

Before I retired, my employers bought lots of high quality parts from China. It’s also possible to by cheap crap from China. I had that experience once. Did OMC do their homework sourcing parts? Probably?
